About this event

You Need a Resume! A Virtual Workshop for BC Women in Trades

If you are a woman working in a construction, maintenance, or industrial trade in British Columbia, you are invited to take part in a subsidized virtual workshop where you'll craft a professional resume and cover letter with an industry expert!

Why do you need a professional resume and cover letter?

  • Applying for jobs
  • Applying for educational programs
  • Applying for positions on Boards of Directors for organizations
  • Applying for volunteer positions
  • To share on LinkedIn so that recruiters can find you

This training includes both a group online workshop via Zoom for 16 participants, PLUS a follow up 30 minute 1:1 session with the facilitator via Zoom or phone at your convenience, in which she will help edit and fine tune your personal resume.

The full cost for this workshop is $60 per person, but we can offer it to tradeswomen in British Columbia for only $20 (further supports available, see below).

Workshop Session Content

  • How to write a succinct and compelling resume
  • How to dissect a job posting to understand how to write a resume and cover letter that fits
  • How to answer interview questions in a way that reflects well on your skills as laid out in your resume
  • How to select references and coach them on their role in supporting your job application
  • Each participant will leave with a plan and guidelines for writing their own resume and cover letter, and a date to follow up individually with the facilitator

Follow Up 1:1 Session Content

  • Individual resume and cover letter to be emailed to facilitator a couple days before the 1:1 session
  • During the 1:1 session, the facilitator will go over the resume and cover letter with the participant, helping them edit and improve the documents so that they are as effective as possible

Limited seats available! To confirm your spot in this workshop, please register here by Monday, December 14th, 2021

BC Centre for Women in the Trades (BCCWITT) is working to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive skilled trades industry, where all feel welcome, healthy, respected, and safe.

We are a partnership led by diverse tradespeople, along with industry and labour representatives. We are committed to removing barriers faced by equity priority people, including Indigenous people, people of colour, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and women, to increase their participation in the trades and promote healthier environments in workplaces and training institutions for all.

BCCWITT provides connection, funding, resources and supports for equity priority tradespeople across the province. We offer programs, tools, and resources to individuals and organizations that support the attraction, retention, and advancement of equity priority people in skilled trades careers. In addition, BCCWITT is part of broader equity and inclusion initiatives supporting other underrepresented groups in construction, maintenance, and industrial trades.
